Come and prune a range of older fruit trees and berries with me in an established orchard in Mole Creek! Rick and Ingrid have recently moved to Tassie from the mainland and they need help pruning the huge range of established fruit trees and berries that are part of their beautiful 2 acre garden. After a quick garden tour with a hot drink and biscuit, we will get stuck into pruning an apple ‘of mature years’ desperately in need of rejuvenation!

Then we will move onto pruning a couple of sweet cherries who have reached middle age to encourage maximum fruiting in the coming years.

We will move onto pruning an established pear T-espalier, which will give you a basis for how to prune any older apple or pear espalier.

After lunch, we will get stuck into the berry cage and prune the blackcurrant, blueberries and redcurrants.

If time allows, we may even poke at the gooseberries from a safe distance!

There is also the option to prune a wayward fig, a trellis of grapes or a congested quince tree.

This workshop will show you how to prune a range of older fruit trees and berries, and give you the confidence to tackle your own to bring the height of mature trees down to enable easier pruning and picking.
