Bruce Jackson – 2026 Life Member

At the 2026 AGM, Permaculture Tasmania announced Bruce Jackson as one of this years new Life Members in recognition of her outstanding contribution to permaculture in Tasmania. Congratulations Bruce!
Bruce joined the committee of Permaculture Tasmania Inc. pre 2024 and has served and continues to serve as Treasurer of the organisation. A dedicated permaculture practitioner based in southern Tasmania, Bruce serves the Tasmanian community through his professional work as a veterinarian of nearly 50 years experience in animal health. Bruce has forged complementary inter-organisational relationships with like minded organisations such as Tasmanian Climate Collective, Community Gardens Network and Landcare, extending his participation in social permaculture. In the same vein Bruce is a keen and willing volunteer representing Permaculture Tasmania Inc. at community events where he speaks the virtues of permaculture and sustainable living.
Bruce has been Treasurer for Permaculture Tasmania at LEAST March 2022 to the 26th . During this immediate post-Covid time the committee was in flux and for about a year or two Bruce and Robyn Moore WERE Permaculture Tasmania. Without Bruce’s steadiness and obligingness to hold things and give it another go, the organisation may well have wound up before it had a chance to regenerate in 2024.
As Treasurer Bruce performed the fiduciary duties that allowed for the key function that the organisation had to have to remain active – that is submitting the yearly return to CBOS. By co-running the organisation in a holding pattern mode with Robyn, it allowed myself and other interested parties to have conversations, meetings, and explore what direction Permaculture Tasmania could take. During 2024 two attempts were made to get replacement committee members in to enable the organisation to be able to either wind up or regenerate. Bruce was an active participant at the meetings and information sessions we held, and as Tasmania’s only membership driven permaculture organisation, his financial duties were foundational to the continued operation of Permaculture Tasmania beyond the crisis years of 2022 to 2024.
Bruce’s patience and steadfastness in co-stewarding the organisation in the absence of any other interested or available parties demonstrated a people care beyond himself – he was well aware of the tremendous benefit the organisation could have within the state and within the permaculture community.
Bruce is a committed environmentalist with a passion for animals and brings his knowledge and lived experience to Permaculture Tasmania Inc. educating members around sustainable agricultural practice, permaculture ethics and principles. He is an enthusiastic participant at crop swaps practising fair share. Bruce aligns his responsibilities as treasurer against a backdrop of best “return on investment” for members through sustainable decision making and recommendations that strengthen community resilience in the face of increased climate pressure.
