UPDATE 3/2 :
Liz and Roscoe are kindly inviting PT’s local group members to visit their Lindisfarne garden. Some of you may have heard Katie refer to Roscoe in follow up as “The Tomato Guy” because he’s really into tomatoes so bring your tomato questions along!
Please note that numbers remain limited to 20 people so please RSVP via email with your contact number and names of those attending to pt.hobart.locals.east@gmail.com to secure a spot.
Once places are full we will place people on a waitlist and let you know if we have any spaces come up closer to the event. (If RSVPs are high, PT financial members will get first preference. )
You will receive an email advising if you are a confirmed attendee or waitlisted. Places will be allocated on “first RSVP first serve” basis.
Further details about the event will be emailed with the address in the week prior to the visit.
A few words from Liz and Roscoe about the development of their garden:
We started to develop our block about 19 years ago without too much enthusiasm and definitely zero planing. I started by clearing enough of the jungle to cut just one run. The yard was previously used as a burial ground for car parts and general junk so it took quite a while to clear one cut. Over a long period I managed to clear it all the way down to the back fence. I then plant a few fruit trees here and there and then I built a chook pen or two. Then I added a garden bed here and there with no particular plan in mind. I grew beans here and peas there and oh that will be a good place to grow some pumpkins. Let’s put a fence in and grow grapes and apples and ah yes we need an apricot tree…..over there somewhere. 18 years on and Covid hit. My mate drove down from Brisbane to Lindisfarne to house sit whilst we went on our very first grey nomad trip to WA to see our eldest son , daughter in law and much loved grandchildren. He arrived the day before all borders shut down. Carefully ensconced in out downstairs bedsitter, our new handy man was put to work reshaping our garden beds which now include swails and growing areas running in the right direction.Over the past 19 years we have lost an avocado tree, an old apple and we have a pear tree that is waving goodbye, BUT we have about 40 fruit trees and berries that have coped with our lack of knowledge and care. We have now retired to what we thought was an easier and slower life style…….what a joke ! We are up to our armpits in alligators we are so busy but nevertheless we manage to produce most of the food we eat and we are living the dream and looking forward to sharing our piece of paradise with everyone .
